BRUSSELS – A ten-year-old girl from Charleroi gave birth to a baby last year. The father was 13.
"The pregnancy was a big surprise to the girl and her mother," says doctor Robert Chef from Charleroi. "The child came to me with unexplained abdominal pain. She had also put on weight. Her mother had even put her on a diet for a while but that had little effect. When we examined her it turned out she was nine months pregnant. The child was carrying a full term baby."
What surprised the doctor the most was that the 10-year-old really looked her age. "Some girls look like a teenager of 15 or 16 at that age. But not this girl."
Still the delivery went smoothly. The young mother was given special treatment however. She was not admitted to the regular maternity ward lest this raise too many curious questions. She was given a bed in the children's ward.

"The father of the baby came to visit her there as well. Many pregnancies in young girls are the result of incest. But that was not at all the case here. The father was a schoolmate of 13. A young guy as well."
Robert Chef says the parents of the girl did not respond angrily. "The grandmother immediately took charge of the baby. She said she would raise it as her own child."
Yesterday the medical weekly De Huisarts reported that 57 Belgian 10-year-olds had been prescribed a birth control pill last year. Some for medical reasons, but others for actual birth control.

Many Northern European societies (more secular than the South) are breaking down rapidly and almost completely in working class areas.

Its probably due to the growth hormone in all our food. Farmers understandably want the cows/chickens to produce more milk/eggs, but they don't realize how it effects the consumers. Girls used to start menstruating at 13 -14 years old. Now its 10 years old and the 14 year olds have D-cup chests (no complaints there from me, but I'm sure it's not good for them...).

I fail to see where liberals enter the picture here... this was a result of poor parenting skills.
Some liberals may believe in the right to choose but they also do happen to believe in birth control measures. As well as abstinence.
Though I don't believe ANY 10-year old or 13-year old should be having sex.

This story gives no indication of the child's parent's attitude towards sex.
Maybe it's a result of natural adolescent curiosity.
As far as mother nature is concerned this was a perfectly natural event. Only society labels it good or bad.

That is terrible...we are constantly talking about teen pregnancy. But this is PRE-TEEN pregnancy. I am a liberal just so you know, and no one approves of this. It is a tragedy because obviously the mother AND father are not able to care for the baby.

Sounds like more a lack of proper sex education. Just telling kids to don't do sex because god doesn't like it does not work. It's been proven. Give them information and proper birth control methods.

Good thing the kids here are learning to put Condoms on in Preschool - I mean look at what they have to be prepared for . . .
How often did this happen when you were growing up? For all of those who said that it's natural adolescent curiosity . . . that's a bunch of BS. I explored and played around during my adolescence, but never had sex. IT WAS NOT OKAY!! It was not something that happened everyday! I was taught that sex was meant to be special . . . my school didn't hand out condoms and sex ed wasn't about different positions . . . the left has corrupted our kids, and God, I hope that we can fix it!

When a young person's body begins to mature sexually, that young person will have sexual urges. It is documented fact that the age of sexual maturity has been gradually getting younger and younger for many decades. I don't understand any connection between this physiological phenomenon and any liberal/conservative dichotomy. Please explain the connection.
