Is a person's sexuality determined by which sex(es) they've partnered, or by which sex they're primarily attracted to?

What criteria do you use in determining whether to consider a person gay, straight or bi - and why?

Im confused

Sexuality is determined by what gender the individual is attracted to, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Just because a woman has slept with another woman, that does not make her gay. She may just be curious. However, when a woman falls madly in love with another woman and wants to spend the rest of her life with her, she is homosexual. The same goes for men.

This is completely natural and acceptable. I believe people will love who they are genetically predetermined to love. Homosexuality is not evil, it is a part of life.

The terms you ask about are not rigidly applied. Some people who have 'experimented' with same sex relations would not consider themselves gay. Others would consider a person gay if they had ever had any kind of same sex relationship, even just kissing.

You are just you. Your friends are just your friends. If a label does not fit someone well then it is the fault of the label, not the person.

If a criteria must be had, I would go by general preference, rather then strictly by experience.

If you prefer the opposite sex, then you are hetero. If the same sex , then gay. If you have no strong preference one way or the other, then bi.

You think YOU'RE confused? So is most of the American public.

I think there's a major difference, depending on whether you are talking about self-classification or classification by others. Most gay people will acknowledge that they have experimented with straight sex at some time in their lives, but it wasn't very satisfying. And plenty of straight people have experimented with homosexual activities, but most of them would deny it if they call themselves straight. Bisexuals describe themselves thusly because they (we) really do feel close to both genders. But most people classifying from outside would only count bisexuality on the basis of behavior. In which case, they would include those who only experimented with something other than what they really want.

Does that clear it up? Basically, we describe ourselves by where our hearts are. Others describe us by who is in the bedroom with us, or who they assume is in the bedroom with us.

BTW, you can get finer distinctions than this. The Kinsey report gives a scale from zero to five, with zero being completely straight (ahem), five being completely gay, and 1 through 4 being varying degrees of bisexuality, or "leanings" in bisexuality. On that basis, you could even use decimals. I'm about 1.5.

P.S. Sparkle's link is correct: the Kinsey is 0 through 6, not through 5.

i've got met many Afghans. they are no longer particularly white as Russians or Europeans, yet they're lighter than what the mainstream thinks (or admits). To me, Afghans lean in direction of white, and that they somewhat belong to the Caucasian race, yet some have a vaguely Asian look. From the kind you describe your self, you look fantastically white.

Well you have three key terms to begin with:

SEX - biological designation (mala and female)
GENDER - it is what the society assigned to the individual (fro example, boys don't cry)
SEXUALITY-sexual preferences.

Well, homosexuality, bisexuality and heterosexuality are dependen upon the sexuality of the individual. It depends upon what he likes for a partner.

It is attraction. One can be LGBT or straight without ever having acted on that attraction.

Sexual behavior has nothing to do with one's inborn orientation. Just ask men in prison.

It is what sex you are innately attracted to and what sex you would be with if the world didn't give a damn one way or the other...
