sometimes when i'm just sitting there or i'm doing some weird move my knee seems to pop out of place and it's very painful and then if i straighten it like 2 seconds after it happens it goes back in place but it's very painful to bend it or straighten it all the way after i do this. but i can definitely feel it popping out of place or something happening in there and it's happens usually 1 to 2 times a year it just depends how careful i am with how i position my leg. it usually takes 2 weeks to fully feel better but it's hard to function. i'm just wondering what actually is happening in there whether it's any major ligaments or my patella or what should i do about this? thanks.

This is an unusual problem and may require surgery to correct it.

Sounds like a 'trick' knee which could be a result of poor body biomechanics due to malformation of bone to keep the patella from sliding out of place. An example would be the medial condyle of the femur is malformed and would not stop the patella from sliding too much inside to the left.----sort of like a chronic dislocation.
Could also be 'joint mice' which resulted in repeated trauma to the knee.
I'd get a referral to see a physiotherapist that can assess your gait and biomechanics of your knee...from there he/she can give you the proper strengthening exercises to decrease the likelihood of this type of injury repeating too often.

Good luck.

If you had a knee injury, I would not recommend running for at least two more weeks or longer. Keep the brace on until your doctor tells you to remove it. You are going to have to start slow and work your way back up to running.

You need to see an Orthopedic Dr. who can assess your injury. You should get it checked out now so it doesn't get worse later. That one guy is right it could be a torn meniscus but there are also many ligaments in your knee that could also be injured. See a DR.

Its hard to say why it is poping out of place without a knee exam. I would say that you have lots of instability in your joints and special taping could help this along with stability exercises.

Sounds like you need to talk to a doctor about it before it causes more damage than there already possibly is!
