Help me settle a friendly bet between myself and my ill-informed buddy.

I think Paul Kariya, undisputed #1 star of the St. Louis Blues, has a serouis chance of racking up 110 points (2 better than his career best).

Who thinks this is possible and who says no way?

Now obvouisly it's only 4 games in the preseason, but he would be on pace to score 102 points with less than 18 minutes of playing time per game.

My point being, if he can keep it up for 82 games, he can be one of the best this year. He's got over 100 points (99 was so close to 100 we're going to call it that) 3 times in his career.

It's very possible for Kariya to rack up a lot of points on a crap team. If you're the best player on a team, you will be on the top line, top power play line, everyone will pass to you, and so on.

A good example is Robert Lang. Look at his stats before and after joining Detroit. 74 points in 63 games with Washington, the next year, 62 points in 72 games.

Paul Kariya is immensewly talented but there is always something missing on the team he plays for. He could have a very good season but I do not think he will get 110 points. Maybe 90-100

Your friend is the ill-informed one?

Well that's 34 more points than he scored last year when he actually played on solid team. lol

I hope you didn't put any money on that.

EDIT-
My point being, is that if he can only score 76 points skating with the team with the 5th best offense in the whole league last season, what possible logic could you have for him scoring 110 with the 26th best offense??? You really can't be serious using pre-season stats as your justification? Derek Roy scored 6 points in 1 pre-season game the other night, you putting him on a 400 point pace too?

Not a chance

St. Louis is in complete shambles, inexperienced young guys with old adding vets there just isn't any middle ground for consistency.

80 points would be a dream season realistically around 60 which comes at a rather steep price of 6 million a year

kariya is still a very talented player but there is only a handful of nhl players that can score over 100 points and i dont think he is one of them, he may be the best player on that team but he doesnt have the support cast that will allow him to rack up that many points.

Paul Kariya will score 110 points this season only if pigs learn to fly, he goes out and buys one of those pigs, and he rides past defenders on his magical flying pig scoring goals left and right. So.... yeah, it's possible...... btw, when do those pigs go on sale? I want one!

Paul is nowhere the player he was in Anaheim. Once Selanne left for San Jose, his stats went down considerably. He's lost step (but then he is 33) and has no talent surrounding him.

I think he'll be a point a game guy, but 110 in today's NHL.....not for Paul.

perhaps if he played the entire 60 minutes a game he'd have a shot, kariya san is not playing on a good team this year and unfortunately if he breaks the 70 pt plateau i would be suprised

Not a chance. He's great but he's not going to have any more 100 pt seasons in his career.

If you mean total for the rest of his career, then yes. Otherwise, not a chance. He's very much on the downside of a great career.
