my grandma waited for 2 hours to get into an appointment and she asked if she was next after many people who came in after her went in first. she then was told there was 3 people in front of her after they brought her to a room. so she left because my grandpa had an appointment an hour later. the office called him to tell him that she left before she could be seen and that she was on her way home.

doesnt this violate the hippa forms that they have you sign?? please give me some advice .. ( she has to see a doctor, she has major surgery comming up in a few weeks.. so she needs to get over her cold.) thanks so much guys.!!

It's not a violation of policy if your Grandma included your Grandpa as a contact on the form. Most married couples do that.

Besides, it's just an appointment notice. Why are you so bent out of shape about it? No, nobody likes to wait at the doctor's office...but the fact is that your Grandma is the one that left. So what if they called Grandpa? You act as if this is some major violation of her civil rights.

Your grandfather is probably her emergency contact person and the office was expressing concern about her well being by notifying him that she missed an appointment.

This violates nothing if your grandmother designated him as able to get her information.

It's a violation unless they had authorization from the patient.
