no way....uniforms help a little bit with the pressure of the kids that don't have as much as the others....it seems to help them fit in more better and bring guess what "uniformity" to the school body! i still wish that it was some kind of way for them to have the same exact thing on, so that the kid who's parent can't afford the $200 sneakers don't feel bad......they only have it from K-8th grade where I am right now...i hope by the time my daughter reaches the 9th grade that they will have it there also...i wish they could stop having different cliques in school also, but that will never change.

No. At least not totally...

I do not think parents should have to spend a huge sum of money in order to keep their kids "in uniform". I've spoken to parents who have been required to spend thousands of dollars so their kids can be in the required uniform for the school year (private school, mind you).

Instead of uniforms, our school has "Standard School Attire (SSA)" requirements. Basically, twill pants, shorts, skirts, scooters, or jumpers along with shirts with collars or school Ts. Although color choices are restricted (navy, kahki, hunter, and white at our school), the manufacturers are not. "Uniforms" can be purchased at Target, WalMart, Old Navy, Lands End, Eddie Bauer, etc as well as school PTA sponsored exchanges.

Uniforms are meant to keep everyone on the same level, not to drain the parent's pocketbook!

No, and for all of the same "no" reasons cited above. If the school I used to teach in would have required uniforms, I would have gladly dressed in a similar fashion; that would have saved me lots of money on the professional clothes I used to buy to wear to work.

Interesting topic!

In my opinion, it should be half

for elementary students and 6th and 7th graders uniform should be for them

while 8th and above should have no uniforms, but a proper dress clothes

not like wearing pants down to your knees!

No. My son wears them and I love that the kids cannot tell who has lots of money and who is poor. Most everyone gets new shoes at the beginning of the school year so all is equal in the clothing department. It's also easy because he wears whatever is clean and not whatever is fashionable. They do get dress down days once per month, so they do get to show off their favorite t-shirts.

No. Uniforms keeps everybody the same and prevents people from thinking that they are being then other solely on basis of clothes.

No. If everyone dresses alike, nobody stands out as being a gang member, a preppie, etc. And we, the public, get to avoid seeing yet another kid wearing a pair of pants so big that they look like they're wearing something from their big brother's closet.
