Had my scan at 12 weeks and after that was given an appointment to see a consultant. The appointment is next week and the more I think about it, the more worried I'm getting. Like a fool, I didn't ask what the appointment was for after my scan, so now my imagination is running riot. I'm 35, my friend who is about 8 year's younger than me had her baby at the same hospital and didn't have a 16 week appointment with a consultant, so why do I have to? Does it mean that there are concerns after my scan? Or does it mean something else? So very worried and really could use some advice please.

Call the consultant and see if you can find out what the appointment is for and may be get an earlier date. Good luck.

At the hospital I go...EVERYONE sees the consultant at 20wks after their scan. I wouldn't worry too much though, all he will do is read through your pregnancy notes, check any blood tests, scans etc. that you've had. He will then decide if your pregnancy is classed as high risk or low risk (they may automatically place you in the high risk due to your age). Low risk means don't need to see you again just see your community midwife as and when and if you are high risk it just means they want to keep a closer eye throughout your pregnancy. Don't worry though as it'll just mean more scans and more check ups to reassure them and you! A friend of mine was classed as high risk due to having 2 prem births at 35 wks so she gets scanned regularly, she is now 35 wks and has been going in most days, they take good care of her!

Anyway....don't worry you will be fine!
Good luck! x

Could you hear/see your baby's heart beating?

I don't know how things are done here, but if you had something wrong, they would have called in another ultrasound technician, taken lots of pictures or a video, and your appointment with the consultant would have been right away.

Can you feel the baby kicking every day?

I had consultant appointments with my first daughter and now im having them with my 2nd child too.
do you have any specific health problems, high bp or pervious ops on or around your womb etc or even something like being very short or very overweight? it could be to do with that or it could be i hate to say it, to do with age, i doubt it as i wouldnt class your age as "old" for children but i guess it depends on the hospital. also if ur expecting twins u might see them too.
dont worry about it, they will talk to you when you get there, if you are worried talk to your midwife, she should know and if she doesnt she can find out for you.
to be honest i always worry when i go to see the consultant and i know what its for!
good luck with it, im sure there is a good reason and if it was anything serious im sure they would have had a dr in the scan room to tell you.

Call your doctor and ask, to put your mind at ease. The information you have given us, and were given is very vague. Just ring up your doctor, tell them you have pregnancy brain and you didn't think to ask, but now you are concerned, and would like to know what the consultation is for. They will more then understand and probably give you a brief description of the purpose of the visit. Hope this helps some. There is no sense in stressing yourself out if you can just buzz them and ask :)

It may just be because of your age. I have a friend who is 35 and has to go through alot of testing and stuff because of that. If your worried you can always call your doctor and ask why your being sent for to the consultant. Your doctor should be more then happy to answer any of your questions. I'm sure everything is just fine! Congrats!

without sounding rude, it might be to do with your age, I think after the age of 35 you are at a higher risk of having a downs baby, at 16 weeks they normally do a "double downs test", where they give you a blood test to see if the gene for downs is in your blood. I think they offer you this test which I think you have to pay for, but if you was over 40 then the test would be free. Don't panic, if something was wrong with your baby they would have told you there and then, they don't leave things like that, or you would have been referred to a specialist straight away. It is just procedure.

You should phone up tommorrow and ask....they will set your mind at rest...it could be anyhting...it could just be the hospital policy....policies change all the time....just call in the morning and ask...someone will tell you. And listen, if something had been wrong at that scan they would have voiced their concerns to you...they dont just book appointments for problems without telling the Mother first. Good luck but I'm sure its ok.

I fell pregnant just before I turned 32, and was sent to see a consultant because I was overweight when I fell pregnant.

Give your doctor a ring and just explain that you're not sure what the appointment is for - ask them to clarify why you need to see a consultant.

Good luck with everything!
