I'm assuming that you're bright and can discern the truth . You probably believe in alot of the Democrat's ideas on how to run this country . Well what would you say if you could find proof as to whether those ideas work or not ? Pretty good idea huh ? Well here's proof . It's kinda long but I'm sure with all of your successful academic achievements that you'll be able to read and re-read this in no time . And I'm quite sure you'll appreciate seeing proof before believing . You know , the whole 'question everything' ideal that you've been taught .
Read this . Give it thought . then tell me Democrats have good ideas . . . or maybe they don't ?BTW , this is about 2 term Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm of Michigan .

Speaking of shining examples of "liberal governance," I wonder what our Democratic leaders have to say about Hugo Chavez? I fear they may have favorable opinions of him. I believe they share some of his opinions regarding "regulating" the media ("fairness doctrine").

As a Michigander and NO fan of Granholm, I'd rather she'd lost the last election, but the economy of this state is not bad because of Granholm. She inherited a sinking economy due to the problems being experienced by the Big 3 automakers.
Regardless of what the state government did, the fact is that the Big 3 and their suppliers were and are losing market share and experiencing significant losses and are laying off people. And that has a ripple effect throughout the economy of SE Michigan. That is NOT due to Granholm; there's nothing she could have done to prevent it.
That said, her ideas and actions for moving this state through these hard economic times is just wrong. She won't trim the budget to any significant extent, and she wants increased taxes, which she just got.
That's not going to help.

The democratic party--the left, that is--believes in high taxation and a free-spending government with an anti-business point of view. As tax rates increase both individuals and businesses leave the state, taking productivity, employment, capital and the tax base right along with them. And as always, the solution from the left is to raise taxes. Attack the problem by applying more of what caused it!
Right now, income is pouring in to the federal government as a result of those evil Bush tax cuts. Naturally the left is not going to admit it, but a reduction in taxes always creates greater tax revenue. It's just a fact. Business expands as investment increases, new taxpayers are created and tax revenue explodes. However as all facts which run contrary to the liberal template must be ignored--or covered up--Michigan will continue trying to solve its problems by driving more taxpayers out of the state.
The real question will be who to blame for all of the problems which exist in the world once George Bush has finished his term? But come to think of it, that won't really be so tough. If a republican is elected there will simply be a continuation of all of the old miseries. And if a democrat wins, they can go right on blaming Bush for the next few decades at least. See there! I've just solved Michigans problems. It's Bushes fault. The folks in Detroit should feel better now!

Granholm was re-elected because the Republicans put up such an inexperienced candidate, a small time version of George W. Bush who had accomplished next to nothing despite all the wealth and opportunities he was handed. He couldn't even graduate from a college that his father gave millions to. He never had the business ability or interest to manage more than a closet organizer company. He became interested in politics only one year before he ran for governor. What sparked his interest? He ruined a tire in pothole.
The rest of your rant concerns problems that Michigan and Detroit had for years before Granholm was elected. You are one of those people who is incredulous when Democrats "blame" something on Bush, such as his war of choice on Iraq, yet you blame Granholm for economic problems caused by the faltering auto industry.
And by the way, at the time George W. Bush, the "education governor" left Texas, it was ranked #48 in the nation for school achievement.

Michigan born here. The economy has been off there for many years. If you didn't farm then you worked for the Big 3 or something related to the auto business. Much of what she is dealing with is the result of previous administrations. Is she dealing with it properly? I can't say, I left. I saw the future of this lovely state. I left for greener pastures.

I moved to Michigan from NYC recently and some general observations about the state of the state of MI. I also would state that I live in Ann Arbor, and after living in NY most of my life I wouldn't even characterize 'liberal AA' as liberal, it's an incredibly conservative state.
White flight has severely hindered economic growth in the Detroit and Flint regions and that fear of the inner city has stopped public transit proposals that would aid in urban renewal efforts allowing gentrification of these cities.
Reliance on the big three auto manufacturers has hindered growth as well....
Also both Prop 2s have made it a not so nice place for many people.

Liberals running the states and even the country only work if there are an overabundance of taxpayers. They tax and spend because they think they know how to spend your money better than you do. Of course, it is to help somebody elses children or parents or bum brother. Take away from the working person to give to the bum. Typical Socialist mantra.

Actually, despite having a democrat as a governor, Michigan is pretty damn conservative. I grew up there and moved to California. I know alot about Michigan since I still have alot of family there.
Sorry buddy, but all your railing against Granholm is barking up the wrong tree. Engler drove up the state's budget deficit so high before office that Granholm has been having to try to pay that down along with a huge problem in the states employment figures. The next thing you'll probably say is that GM's, Ford's and Chrystler's problems are her fault too. Geesuz, you people are so incredibly ignorant. The fact is that Michigan has always had problems economically. That's why it has always been part of the 'rust belt'. I left Michigan in the early 1980's because it was in a severe depression while the rest of the country was in a deep recession with 22% interest rates because of Reagan. Unemployment in Michigan was over 20%. Stop blaming Granholm and start looking at the business decisions of the auto industry and their failures and the failures of the Bush administration to create new jobs that actually compare and compete with the middle class jobs being destroyed in his economy and replaced with Walmart jobs. You can't run an economy that is one sided and incredibly imbalanced in trade.
Granholm is actually trying to do something about the poverty in Michigan which is throughout the state not just Detroit and Flint. Rural Michigan is very poor, it's just less concentrated than the cities. It would be 100 times worse under deVos if he was elected. Michigan is not a good example of anything except an example of how one sector of the economy can effect a state if that entire state's economy is dependent on that one sector for too long. It's not Granholm's fault because she inherited the problem and has been trying to do something about it. That's more than anyone can say that Bush has done for the victims of Katrina let alone for the people of Michigan.
BTW, those statistics you sighted for Detroit as being the most poor and violent in America under Granholm, they were the same under Engler. He didn't do anything but raid the treasury for his rich corporate buddies. Electrolux went out of business because it was losing business. What was Granholm supposed to do about that? Buy more vacuum cleaners? Come on dude, pull your head out. Michigan has always had problems since the American auto industry has been going down hill because they won't change their auto designs to meet the demands of a people who want more fuel economy.
If there are no jobs in Michigan, how is pulling people off welfare going to create more jobs? It won't, it will create more poverty and more home foreclosures and more high school dropouts. BTW, high school drop out rate is rising much higher in most states than Michigans.
And, Granholm is attracting more business to Michigan.
It's obvious that the people of Michigan didn't trust deVos enough to vote for him. They were very wise in not voting for him.
Your 53000 not insured with health insurance reflects what's going on around the country, not just Michigan. So once again, not Granholms fault.
Your special election will cost the Michigan taxpayer millions and is a very stupid idea.
