I have family in Jersey and will be living with them for a bit. My aunt told me I need a vehicle to get around. What if I use a bike to get around? Would this be ok? Also, how much should I save up before i go? I won't be paying rent. All I need is money to pay my bills. What do you guys think?

I live in NJ...and yea you definitely need a car. The closer to NYC you are the less you would need to rely on a car.....but for the most part ...suburbs do not have public transportation.

Places like Jersey City have buses that could get you around.....but in small towns to get to a mall or the grocery store you need a car. I only live about 20 miles from NYC in the Bergen/Passaic County area and there is no way I would be able to survive without a car.
