There will be virtually no stores other than convienence stores open on Thanksgiving Day. The day after Thanksgiving is traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year in the US and San Antonio is no exception to this phenomenon. This is due to most businesses and schools being closed for the day and almost all stores having sales to start the holiday season.

As has been suggested, use the local paper from Thanksgivingday or Friday morning to find the sales. It is best to have a list of what you want and not to plan a day of casual shopping as the crowds will generally make you rush to the ER for anti-anxiety medications by noon.

Usually going to a mall or shooping center is the best idea as you can go to a variety of stores without having to drive between them. I prefer Rolling Oaks, La Canterra, and North Star because they are most available to me but most can serve adequately.

Another consideration, but often crowded, is to make the drive to the outlet malls in San Marcos. Often the prices are really not that much better, but on occasion you can get a good deal. I have found that shopping the sales really well, is just about as effective and uses less gas.

I actually think the best place to go would be Rivercenter, so when you get tired of shopping, you can go hang out on the Riverwalk for a while.

Good luck with your shopping!!
I'll be rock climbing outside Las Vegas that day!

Happy Thanksgiving in advance!!

You mean the morning after Thanksgiving because this is when all the great sales are. Here are some tips I would suggest.

1. Make a game plan - Get your city paper on Thanksgiving day. It will reveal all the sales that will take place the next morning. Decide specifically what you want, from what store and in what order.

2. Wake up very early - at least 4:30 or 5:00 am. Most stores will open doors at 6 some 7 but some even earlier. It will say in the newspaper ads. But expect long lines very early.

3. A lot of the sales will require you to do rebate orders. If you get these rebate orders do them straightaway!! Don't wait or you will forget! Company's make their money off people who intend to fill out mail-in rebates but never do.

4. Be firm but courteous as you are shopping. There are some psychos who will fight and stop at nothing to get what they want. Usually everyone wants the same thing. Be firm, Decide ahead of time what you want and what you are willing to do for the great sale.

5. After you have your necessity's you can relax and see what good deals are left.

6. some of the best deals I have found day after Thanksgiving have been at Office Max, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, JC Penney. look out for them. They should have some killer deals.

North Star Mall's Macy's the day after Thanksgiving and go really early for the real bargains. I bought 2 portable DVD laptop players, for 105 dollars total last year. I also got a cute jogging suit for $7 and a great sweater fur vest for $5. I think I must have saved $400 on just the 4 items.

Barely anything will be open Thanksgiving. San Antonio is pretty quiet on Thanksgiving Day.

I love Rolling Oaks Mall. Being that it's so close to my parents house I go there with my girlfriend all the time. It has everything.

Wake up around 3:30-4:00 (depending on where you live)
Rolling Oaks can be far for some people on the N side.
Most stores open at 5:Am that morning.

Our favorites are: JC Penney, Earthbound Trading Co, Sears, Dillards, Gap, and Journeys.

For the older people Sears has good clothes.

-JC Penney
-Dillards
-Macys
-Journeys
-Sears
-Gap
-Hollister
-Lids
-Sunglass Hut
-Earthbound Trading Co
+ More good stores

Since the area is not extremely populated as North Star Mall and La Cantera it doesn't get so crowded that you can't find parking.

The other malls San Antonio Has are:
-The Forum
-La Cantera
-The Rim
-Ingram (Not so great)
-North Star
-River Center
-Quarry Market

Good Luck
