1. bad measuring stick (not accurate)
2. standing person may not be standing up straight
3. standing person may standing on toes not flat feet
4. standing person may stand up straight but measurer marks height with an object that is not attached to the wall and tip it down in the back (measures too short)
5. measurer could use hand - which is not flat and may slope when measurement is read
6. laying person (as in baby) squirms
7. laying person is longer than measuring surface so guessing measurer misses the mark.
8. inconsistent measuring tools - tape measure, yardstick, string....
