My 1991 Firebird has 180,000 miles and is still on its original fuel pump. How often is the fuel filter changed? Not changing it can really kill the pump's life.
The part itself is under $250, so it sounds like you are getting raped on labor. Time to look elsewhere for service.....

Make sure that the connector to the pump module assembly has good terminal tension and that the terminals are not burned. If the ground to the pump is poor, the life will also be shortened. GM fuel filters usually clog up at 15,000K so if you don't change the filter at the necessary times the pump will have to work harder (draw more amperage) thus shortening its life. The reason the pump is so expensive is that it is not serviced separately from the fuel sender but as a whole unit.

My pontiac Grand prix went thru three fuel pumps in 140 thousand miles. Dropping the gas tank each time and Grand Prix pump was around $250 so the rest is being overcharged the labor to install the pump. There are aftermarket pump by now But I never risked putting in one marked made in china. It was bad enough installing the GM one that said made in Mexico.

No, it certainly is not!
One of two things happened here.
Either that line produced bunch of Sunbirds got stuck with a bunch of defective fuel pumps, or you're using cheap and bad gas.
Look back on the GM website and see if any recalls were issued for your model, concerning the fuel pump.
You might be entitled to a free fix.
If not, put better fuel in your car.
Cheap ain't always best.

The biggest weak point for GMs are the fuel pump in most of their car lines. I replaced tons of them and they are costly.

u need to check ur gas lines and the fluids if the fluids are low ur lines will compress due to heat and friction and cause the fuel pump to blow over a period of time do a fullflush at ur local oil change garage also have them check ur fluid pressure in ur gas tank

I've got a '90 Firebird Formula 350 with about 140,000 miles, and it's never to be changed.
