Yes you can lose your job. It is NOT considered discrimination to refuse to hire someone or fire them because of their criminal history. Criminals are not a protected class.

If you made a promise to tell them then you are required to do so. If they did a background check on you when you were hired, they may routinely re-do those checks.

Other than that I don't know of anything that requires you to tell them. Just remember, these things have a way of coming out and you would be in a much better place if you had already told them.

Definately ignore semisatanic1 for a start, that is very bad advice. There are areas of work where certain codes of ethics apply. Working with vulnerable people or children requires you have a CRB check and that is a legal requirement......which the relevant employer would have to apply for. Also, some contracts of employment ask you if you have any criminal convictions, this means that its better for you to be honest. Others may specify convictions of a certain nature, such as drink driving.
Things always come out in the end my friend........If its not a serious offence then there would possibly be a case for discrimination if your offence did not breach relevant company policy in any way......err on the safe side mate that will at least put you above the leech element eh..

It depends on two things. If your employer has a policy that states they must be told of any convictions, then you can lose your job if you fail to disclose.

Secondly, any job that involves the care of or contact with vulnerable adults or children has to be checked through the Criminal Records Bureau. This can mean dismissal for having a record, or dismissal for failing to declare a record.

Depends if it impacts on your work. If, say, you get done for drink driving and you are a taxi driver then I'd say you were up shite creek without a paddle.
It all depends on the crime and the seriousness of it and the work you do.

It depends what you do for a living. In certain professions you are obliged to disclose any criminal record, for instance teaching or working for the police.

Don't listen to these clowns!
The answer is simple!
Don't tell your boss and it is illegal for them to find out and sack you!
Its a catch 22!
If they find out and sack you then they are criminals too!

you do not need to tell them.
plus they cannot sack you for it as that would be discrimination.
if all employers done that they would not have many workers. hope this helps.
