I presently have a portable dishwasher but need a new one and would like a built-in . I understand the requirements re-plumbing and electrical but do I need to build a cabinet to put it in or can it just sit at the end of my cabinets if I put a top and side on it?

Normally all you need is a 24" blank opening, with the required electic, water, & drain. Nothing else required.

You would need a top and side on it if it is on the end of the cabinets. It needs to be next to the sink.

Yes. It will need to be plumbed into your sink drain.
