You should root for whoever you like. People tend to root for their hometown teams because it's easier to get tickets to those games. I suggest you root for a team that you like rather than against a team you hate. It's ok to hate a rival but that shouldn't be why you enjoy rooting for a team.

Of course, just because you are from a city, does not mean you have to like and/or support that team. By the way many of the players are not from the City they play for anyway, so I don't see why it will be a big deal. I live in Chicago, I don't care for the Bulls, but I love the Pistons. I have went to the Bulls games just to see the Pistons.

You don't need help. You're being too rational.

Sure, root for whoever you like.

LOL, Teresa, i agree on the drunk thing. Imagine 3 or 4 Cubs fans sitting amongst a sea of Sox fans at the Cell and thinking that they won't get pummeled by some of the Sox fans. I was there back in June and saw it.

Pretty stupid.

I live in Cincinnati and live and die with the Cardinals. It's FUN!

I worked half a season FOR THE REDS in 2000 as an usher at Riverfront Stadium/Cinergy Field and I would get hazed non-stop. But, I could always get out of it by yelling "scoreboard" since the Cardinals had a better history and went on that year to start their dominance of the NL Central.

As long as it's handled in good fun, it's great being the odd-man out!

Well I think that you should root for the team you like. But you should never change it just to root for a winning team.

That's fine if you root for a team outside of the state/city that you live in. In live in Arizona and root for the Cubs.

Free country with freedom of choice and Free Will. Why would you root for anyone other than the team of your choice, anyway? Life's too short to be a hypocritical fan.

Despite the best attempts by our current government to the contrary, we still have freedom of choice in this country.
If you want to root for a team outside your residential area, go for it!

No. You should cheer for your hometown team. The only exception is if your parents moved from somewhere else and are diehards, so you grow up not knowing better.

I hate the Yankees, but if you are from NYC you should cheer for them and enjoy the feeling of backing a consistent winner. Or cheer for the Mets, who at least have the great Pedro Martinez.

Cheering for a team other than your hometown team is an early indication of a frivilous and inconstant temperment.
