This happens a lot more often than you think. Many people hide behind their keyboards and pretend to be someone else for a number of reasons. That is why you need to be extremely careful when communicating online. Do you really think that all of the people on Yahoo Answers are who they appear to be?

Don't bother with a confrontation, but stop all communication and be more careful the next time.

It would be better to give the person a telling-off first before stopping all forms of communication.

Just stop communication. You have to be very careful with this because a lot of people online mean you no good, and someone who is being dishonest online is probably someone who can't be trusted in the first place. Be safe and be careful.

I've come to trust the people I email and become friends with so I'd be really hurt..
I would just stop all form of communication with them...

You shouldn't be talking to strangers on the internet unless you know them. I would stop all communication before you get yourself into a situation you really don't want to be in.

I would block him /her from any way of ever contacting you ever again. Confrontation never works. Just block the person. I had to do that today & it made me feel good, because I was being played for a complete fool.

I personally would confront them! I would tell them what you found and call them on it! If you don't they will probably just keep bugging you until you say why anyways. Just be upfront, tell them that they are scum and move on :)

Drop them like a hot potato. They will have excuses if you confront them and only make you feel worse!
