My PC is 4 years old. TIme for upgrade. The refursbished ones from PC World (UK shop) look very tempting at decent prices. Anyone bought one and were they ok? Any horror stories? Thanks

The key in my mind is what kind of use has it had.

In a "refurb" world, you'll never know for sure.

The key question is how much use the "drives" have had, and that's especially true of the hard drive. The CD/DVD drives are of question, but they don't normally run/spin all the time the pc is on.

If you're getting a really good buy on a very good upgrade, and might consider replacing the hard drive also, it can be an economical option.

Personally, I probably wouldn't take the chance on the old hard drive in the machine, and would simply order a new one and install it before I start adding all my software and data, music, pictures, etc.

You might also want to compare the tech specs/hardware of what the refurb pc has, versus the specs/hardware of a new machine.

I'm not familiar with what is available in the UK, but Dell has some darn good buys on variou priced desktop PC's for under $1000.

Do some shopping on the NEW ones.

Hope this helps.
