Their schedule has not given them a break. They lost three games against better teams. What did you expect.

Well my understanding was A.J. Smith and Marty weren't speaking to each other at all and pretty much hated each other. I'd be worried if I was Mr. Smith at this point because it looks like the Chargers are already in serious trouble of not making the playoffs. They have Denver and Oakland the next two weeks (two division opponents who both look better than SD) then then get Indy on Nov.14. They could have 5 or 6 losses by Nov.14. Norv Turner is probably in over his head as a head coach, he appears to be an excellent assistant, not a head coach. It does look like they let a potentially very good head coach, Wade Phillips go to Dallas based on how well the Cowboys are playing for Wade.

I feel sorry for you charger fans. but I think the chargers over-acheived last year and was not as good as their record indicated. Yes L.T. is probably the best all-around player in the NFL and Gates and Meriman are great players, but that team was coached up to their 14-2 season. Now enter this season, they got rid of a hall of fame coach so A.J. Smith could have total control. so they hire a puppet coach in norv turner who just hit the lottery by even getting another head coaching job he clearly does not deserve. That move has clearly back-fired.
Also the talent is not good as a lot of people believe it to be. The secondary is horrible and that was proven last week as Farve lit them up. They got rid of their leader on defense with Donnie Edwards being let go. as far as the offense goes, they do not have an outside threat at WR, (although Vincent Jackson does have potential) Everbody is lining 8 and 9 men in the box to stop LT and keying on Gates.

Its his "punt on first down" philosophy.
Seriously, Marty lost his offensive and defensive coordinators and lots of the rest of his coaching staff. He had no one left that he brought to the table when he was selected as head coach. That is the AJ Smith/Dean "build me a stadium" Spanos version of why he was let go.
Now there are new coaches with new approaches to the game and a new playbook. This isn't the same offensive scheme that they had been learning for he past 3 or 4 years. Then, since it isn't working now like the old stuff worked last year, the frustration piles up and tempers fly.
Hey, don't you think the players know that Marty was replaced by a losing coach?

They are just bad and yes the head coach totaly sucks Norv has never been a winner and never will be and i think the team wants him out thats why they aren't playing well for him they never wanted Marty to go so you have to blame the Chargers Exec's for ruining the team this year with a very negative coaching change plus to be honest Rivers is not all that as a QB they should have kept Brees plus the fact they have no star WR to toss the ball too.

inspite of an injury riddled protection, the Chargers are looking the right thank you to win. This week would be no distinctive. The Broncos have a reliable protection, however the Chargers offense has been unstoppable, they'll basically straightforward outscore the Broncos. Chargers 35, Broncos 21.

The problem isn't with Norv. We all knew from day 1 that Norv was and still is a loser coach. It's obvious from his record. A coach is going to act like his record indicates.
As my neighbor has said, "The only background that Norv Turner has had...was being in the background of teams that were successful." (Dallas). In other words, he just happened to be there...but he wasn't the cause of their success.
No...the real problem is actually with AJ Smith. If AJ Smith has a personality problem, then the team should get rid of him. It's really that simple. Because there's no AJ in "team."
Norv was hired specifically so the Chargers would have someone that would get along with AJ Smith.
Congratulations. Now you've got someone that gets along with AJ, and we're 1-3.

From the beginning of the season i thought the chargers would not be very good. I thought they were extremely overrated, it seemed like every team in their division ( Denver, Raiders, Chiefs) made significant moves in free agency and the draft except the chargers. last year they had a good chemistry with Marty Schotenhiemer and his play-calling. this year on the other hand, it seems like they are not playing together well or even at all. Although they do have a new coach, i feel like they are just not meshing right now...The Denver Broncos will win the Division which will leave the Chargers out of the Playoffs...
Damn dood you didn't give anyone a thumbs up...you blow!!!

I say yes, the coach is that bad. I mean, since the team really hasn'y changed, what other conclusion is there? And besides, Norv Turner has a losing record as a head coach. He stunk-up Washington and is now stinking-up San Diego.

A completely new coaching staff, new offensive scheme, new defensive scheme.
Teams are controlling LT and making Rivers beat them, Rivers is not that good of a QB and their WRs are no better.
Short passing game is giving their D fits, which opens up the running game for their opponents.
Overall I'd say Norv is the problem.

Norv Turner happened. He is not a Head Coach. The last success he had was OC at Dallas in the early 90's.
