I don't understand our culture and society. I have no problem with desiring wealth to live a more comfortable life but if we don't desire a big house, expensive cars, a barbie doll wife, millions of friends, and 5 children then there are something wrong with us. I like living a simple life, nice apartment, decent car and hopefully find a Big beautiful women with a great personality and maybe kids, but a lot of people think I am crazy. In my opinion the American Dream is too high maintenance and stressful. Worrying about paying your car note and a wife with unrealistic expectations. Living a simpler live is a lot less stressful. Does anyone else agree with me?

I am not sure who you are speaking to, but I know a lot of people who are just happy to have a roof over their head.

There are people who desire everything and they are determined to get everything, but not that many people are actually like that. Those are people that get all of the attention and therefore we see them.

Take care,
Troy

You can't do what you said without the money to make it happen. Besides, when you have kids your outlook changes. You want the house because it's more security and allows them more room for a comfortable childhood, and no monthly debt after 15-30 years. You have multiples because you fall so in love with your first one and only see the benefits. You take that better job that stresses you out to provide for them (ie health care, financial security).
Don't be so concerned with your own thoughts and desires if you plan on having a family. Once you have a family, they come first. It's that desire that drives the American Dream today.
Nobody really cares if you want to do it or not in the real world. This line of thought usually only comes up in High School, so I can tell you that your perceptions will change when you get older. Your actions become less driven by your outcome, and more by your devotion to family.

I totally agree with you. Life isn't all about money and having the biggest house. Most wealthy people are not even happy that is why we Read about them over dosing and always getting into drama. People may think that materialistic things can bring you happiness but when the day is over none of that means anything. At the end of the day it should be about your family, life health and strength that is what makes us wealthy; a sound mind and love for one another that is not based on something that the world has to offer!

I think anymore the "American dream" is anything you desire. Just like it's becoming more common for couples to have no children. I have friends who have already sterilized themselves and they are only in their early 30's. I think it's a good thing especially with so many people abusing and killing their children. My dream is just to be happy and enjoy the time I get to spend with my family. A bigger house means more cleaning.....and yeah, who needs the stress of it all? It's being happy and content with what you have instead of always wishing you had more.....

To me, the american dream is a carefree life.

1). Get a small bungalow with no noise and good weather.
2). Get a large TV to watch football games and sports
3). Get some beer kegs.
4). Get a nice large bed.
6(. Hook up with some girls once in a while.
7). Play guitar

Take some walks, Pray to GOd.

My American dream.

Is it really unacceptable? Well, America is a haven for worldly things. It's just a matter of deciding for yourself if you really need these things or you just want these things. So, you are right in living a simple life - ITs YOUR DECISION. Anyway, it is not anyone else who will be living your life for you and paying up for your bills so, go ahead, live your simple life and be happy. As long as you live comfortably and doing your own thing without hurting anyone, life could be perfect. People around you are just mere spectators, don't mind them.

I agree..in a sense.

I think that everyone's idea of the "American dream" is different.

Society does put pressure on people to have the most expensive car/house, the "hottest" spouse...you know the whole Stepford wives community thing.

But no one says that you must abide by those guidelines.

I think you should say "screw you" to the people that call you crazy and just live your life the way it will make you the happiest!!

God luck to you.

Dare to be an individual!!!

Hope this helps!

These are not individuals with self worth. They are racing to "become" whatever society exalts in the majority as "successful" Because they were raised to "Become President someday" so--they fear failure, they need to please and are willing to burn up all their "fuel" to acquire what the majority claims is "the good life", "the perfect body", total control of their environment or at least build the facade to deceive others until they crash and wind up in rehab! Better to be childlike in your heart of hearts and discerning of the time in your mind and enjoy your life and help others to do the same and consider everyone as yourself, that way you will do little harm and feel fulfilled in life.
