When I connect the computer through VGA to component cables I get a message saying "not supported mode" I have tried lowering and raising the resolution along with refresh rate. Also tried using several other laptops and still getting the same results. I'm fresh out of ideas anyone know what's wrong?

VGA to component cables do not work, unless the system is specifically designed to use them. Most are not.

There is a VGA connector on the mack of the monitor. Why not use that with a VGA to VGA cable.

Make sure the resolution you are driving it with is 1366 by 768 at 60 Hz.
