I think they're fine. my mother in law uses one for my daughter when we visit. Just use your best judgement and make sure its safe. check to make sure they won't fall through or pinch them.

In my town there is a shop that sells hand made unfinished furniture, that is where I would start if I was you. Since the chair is wood, and needs fixing you're going to want to find someone that has allot of years making furniture, and has actully made wooden high chairs.

As long as they are sanded down and have a finishing on them so that they baby can't get slivers they are fabulous.
They also look really nice!

We have the Eddie Bauer one, and it's great. I find that it's a lot sturdier than the plastic ones that I see, and looks much better in my kitchen. Just one less kiddie-colored plastic contraption.

I've used one for years. They are great, and much more attractive than the big plastic ones

I hated mine! They are not easy to clean!
