I say women because I'm 24 turning 25 next month. Me and my gf were arguing the other day because she said I am less of a lady (as in childish/boyinsh) because I play video games.

I was offended because I am still a woman in every other way. I still enjoy cooking, cleaning, being with my bf etc etc. I'm soft spoken, I wear skirts and heels, I wear make up and do my hair like every other normal girly girl. Only thing different is that I enjoy video games occasionally instead of movie nights.

As a woman and a professional game designer, I'm a bit offended by your friend's statement too, lol. I've always been a bit of a tomboy, but when I get up in the morning, I put on cute clothes, put on make-up, and do my hair. Then I go to work and make video games! My job and my hobbies don't make me any less of a lady.

When it comes to gaming, some people seem to be stuck in 1950s gender roles. Ask your friend if wearing pants makes her less of a lady. Or playing sports. Or going to college. Or working a full time job outside of the home. A lady is who you are, not what you do with your life.

You and I could be friends. I love to play a good video game every now and then like Soul Caliber 3, Tekken 5, Sing Star and Spyro ( for the kid in me), but I always love baking and decorating my home. Being a full-time housewife, and mother of a very active 11 month old son: church, Yahoo Answers, shopping, and video games are the only relief I get sometimes, l.o.l.

I think it's fantastic when women are gamers. I count myself very fortunate because my beautiful wife is a gamer. Instead of her yelling at me for wasting my time or some such thing, we'll play together or she'll do something else.

Also, being a lady has little to do with appearance. A lady is a woman who conducts herself honorably and with class. Her saying that your no lady because you can enjoy more types of media than her is demented.

Speaking as a male, when I see women playing video games the first thing that comes to mind is that those are people who like video games. No offense to your girlfriend, but what difference does it make whether you are a male of female. Or how old you are for that matter. Who knows what she would think of me. I am 50 yrs old and I love to play FIFA soccer on my (not my kids but my) PS2.

I'm another woman gamer.

Nothing wrong with it. In fact, a lot of my boyfriends have found it hot that we can share that as a common interest. (And that I'm no slouch in some of the more competitive games...)

You should tell your friend that being the model of femininity isn't going to do you much good if it means you can't enjoy yourself and have harmless fun.

Dont sweat it...if someone is questioning you it is because of their insecurities. Dont let them project onto you. I am a girl that loves video games. My husband sees this as a major plus...most guys would love for their ladies to play games. Im super girly too, but ive always loved video games :)

I personally think that it's awesome, and I wish more would give it a try before passing it off as a waste of time. Games can bring people together for a little fun without it being serious. You just keep gaming on, and hopefully more will follow.

Pft. I'm a woman (25) and love video games! Always have. It's just an environment thing, I think. It's much more common with the geek crowd. I think your friend was just sheltered from the foul influence of Nintendo and Sega. ;)~ *lol*

Video games enhance your eye hand coordination. They also help your mind solve problems and it helps your timing also. This all depends on what types of games you are playing. Personally, video games are for everyone. I think that the people who criticize people for playing them is because they are not good at them or can't comprehend them.
