I'm noticing that instead of cheering for the teams people like, they would rather bash the teams, and especially the fans of the teams, that they DON'T like. Why is that? What's the point of jeering Cardinal, Met, Tiger, and Brewer fans (and others, of course) instead of bragging about the teams that won?

The point is that sports, baseball included, is full of people who are not well thought of. Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield (an unfairly bashed guy), Milton Bradley, John McEnroe, Michael Vick, and so on. THEN, the fans act just like those guys. "In your face, Tigers. You suck." Why? Are we teaching our kids to be bad sports too? A little funning, sure: "Hey, Met fans, Phillies win!" Okay. But the abuse, the name calling, the insulting, and on and on and on -- isn't that being just like Barry Bonds and company? Why is it such a good thing?

Frizzer -- I am a bit mystified. I have to admit -- I'm not sure what it is you're saying. This forum is FULL of nasty, baiting comments that shows a lack of sportsmanship. I'm concerned and am asking other's opinions. You got me stumped.

eek -- Yes, I have. So I deliberately taught my daughter sportsmanship. She is like many Cardinal fans -- able to cheer for her team and yet respect and even applaud the others. (We're NOT Cardinal fans, but the Card fans are the best in baseball.) I like the idea of parent being ticketed and or ejected. I'm so tired of these super wealthy jocks acting like super immature 5 year olds.

Have you been to a little league game lately? A high school football game? I just can't attend games anymore because the fans ruin it for me!!!!!!!!

I think our kiddy soccer league has the right idea. They ticket and throw out "fans" that are ill mannered.

Unfortunately it is the bad turn within our society as a whole, it is not just for your sports teams. People in general fail to give the respect that should be part of common decency. Rather than hear "alright the Cubs made it" you are going to hear "How does it feel to choke" like Cubs fans do not know what it is like to be defeated and not win. Many things are to blame for this turn to the dark side, first the way the media hypes up the people like this in all forms of reporting, back in the day you would never have people disrespecting the President the way they do today, like him or not he is our President and we have to ride out his term, there is not a single good reason to degrade on the 6 o'clock news every night. The other thing that we see more of in here is that on the internet your are shooting your mouth off to a faceless entity. People are very brave when there is no real consequences to their actions. If these people had to go face to face with the fans from the other teams they are bad mouthing then they would not be quite as brave! Same goes for sports talk radio, people are really brave when calling into some radio show and shooting off how someone else sucks. In the late 80's we started getting away from teaching proper sportmanship when we stopped keeping score on youth games so EVERYONE wins, when people won or lost they were taught the proper ways to handle each. We also have evolved into a society that believes that we are ENTITLED to do what ever we want no matter what it does to others. The courts in this country have taken away the rights of parents to parent and teachers to teach...if everyone stopped meddling in the raising of kids then we would be producing respectful kids to be respectful adults but instead we are raising the crop you see on here.

Let me just say, Congrats to the fans of the Angels, Yankees, Red Sox, Indians, Phillies, Rockies, D-Backs and Cubs! your teams had great seasons and to the fans of the teams that just missed it...you still had good seasons and next year may be better!

Thank you!

We already know the deal with Bonds bashing. An obvious doublestandard while they make 1 million excuses to defend Ankie Mota etc. Those who feel the need to act cool & important behind a monitor are very insecure.

I agree with you for the most part, I just want my teams to win and I don't feel the need to gloat. I kind of feel sorry for the Brewers, because early on it looked like they were going to be something special this year.

On the other hand, I am really enjoying the fact that Notre Dame is 0-5.

in my view, the activity isn't over until the perfect whistle blows. the authentic results of the activity is in retaining with who has greater aspects by ability of the factor the perfect whistle blows. Theres no reason to offer up scoring as at as quickly as as you get to a diverse score. the reason of that's that a great form of communities have heart and ought to play to make a comeback. Its indoors the perfect intersest of the team thats winning to make any attempt at a comeback, to be destroyed. on the same time as your men went attainable with the expectation that the activity grew to become over, they made a mistake. they have been given performed, they have been given faked out. the secure practices cord. could desire to've counseled the secure practices to no longer enable up, and to no longer supply up taking area in.

It never has been, and it never will be cool to participate in poor sportsmanship and it shows no class whatsoever. I don't believe in flaunting it when I win or crying about it when I don't.

It's far from cool. Just because a lot of people do it doesn't make it acceptable...but you know that. :-)
