News today: US, Iraqi civilian deaths fall sharply

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071001/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

Is the Democrat's advice any good. Their goal appears to be elected and not win the war and bring stability to the Middle East.

Hillary is the same one that voted in support of those attacking our troops, Adm. 2934 ( see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhsIy463238 ), and did her best to indicate Petraeus was a liar without any proof, following the mantra of moveon.org lamers.

Just like her past mistakes of voting to go to war, she once again evaluates a military effort wrong. She certainly doesn't have the ability to run the military and shouldn't be in a position to do such.

It looks like someone is going to have to backtrack. Watch closely because if they don't backtrack and tell the truth that the surge is working, we know they don't have America's wellbeing in mind but their own political goals.

Only the Democrat from Washington, Brian Baird, understood the troop surge and supported the president AFTER he returned from Iraq. He was the only Democrat to come back and tell the truth after going to Iraq. All the Democrats are against him now. Guess what... he opposed the initial invasion in 2002. Here is a Democrat that got it right both times and his own party is against him. We need some truthful Democrats in congress, not those that just want to get elected.

Baird wrote in a Seattle Times op-ed Aug. 24 that even though “the invasion of Iraq may be one of the worst foreign policy mistakes in the history of our nation, ... a precipitous or premature withdrawal of our forces now has the potential to turn the initial errors into an even greater problem just as success looks possible.”

The Ramadan decline is hogwash... read the article FIRST, and then play the excuses so they will at least look valid.

For the few that try to hang on the Democrat talking points from the last election... the plan has always been to leave Iraq when the government can defend itself and make it a viable government. The hucksters want to define things other than the original goal that is much less that a free Iraq. All they want to do is bring the bar down so low that it is easily accomplished so they won't have to admit to the American people they just cut and run. Every time you see a Democrat scratching his head claiming there is not plan for success, he/she is a Cut & Run Democrat. Make no mistakes about it.

No, this kind of news does not help the democrats who want to cut and run and are running for office will distance themselves from these good reports.
I never thought a war was to help a political party to office, I thought a war was to make the world a better place to live.

No ... the democrats won't touch that with a 10 foot pole ... they won't touch anything that might hurt their chances to get elected

it's only critical thinkers that realize the troop surge is failing, and this war is nothing more than big business forcing our governments hand, and getting rich

why else would they go in without an exit strategy ~ because they don't intend on leaving

the sad part is it seems many people have bought into the ideal of military industrial theocracy ... and we have already begun to destroy our good name around the world ... again, this is exactly what George Washington warned would destroy our great nation

... it's also what destroyed the Romans ... history shows us just what is happening, right now, to us ... but no one seems educated enough to care

First of all... Patreaus is a liar. He met with Bush two weeks before he gave his assessment....and what do you think they talked about ? It's that obvious.

I for one hope the surge is working for it's intended purpose...which is to lower violence. Problem is, I don't think you can get an honest assessment from one of Bush's cronie's (Patreaus / Crocker).

If the surge is working as they say, then I guess we need to change modes now...and get the Iraqi's to head their own security..right ?...while our troops play a more background supportive role so we can begin a phased withdrawl. However this isn't the message being conveyed by the White House is it ?! The message we're getting is that we need more guns, more troops, more tanks and personel carriers, we're going to revamp our infrastructure in the region. So...of the 179 billion dollars requested for Iraq, LESS THAN 2% is requested for the training and equipment for Iraqi's to takeover security.....why is that ?...you tell me.

real answer - Victory in Iraq does not look close.
Even Petraeus says it could be more than five years away

are we the Worlds ONLY Superpower or what ???
how many more years, lives lost (on both sides), and billions of dollars must we endure ?

if you want to talk about big mistakes, then lets talk about bush and the bait and switch he gave us.

This Democrat had no opinion on the surge in the first place. I still want to know a plan and a time line. Until you Bush buddies can provide that, then shut up.

Where is the proof the Surge is working? Even Bush's Chosen one has stated the Surge is not working. Why are our Moms, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, and Children still being killed by the insurgents? What is the 'Mission' now? Bush changes the 'Mission' daily.

Yes, because it is. There is still no political reconciliation in Iraq.
