Sports are taken very seriously, why else would they have million dollar salaries? We need sports in society for it keeps us from killing one another, keeps the masses in check. I could expound, but I realize this is not the place for bloviation.

I too had several heated debates about this with my friends for most sport loving people myself included the biggest honour i can think of would be to play football for my country so for Roy Keane to walk away (he was sent home but he left the manager no choice) at the biggest stage of football the world cup it shows a lack of respect to the people that put him there the fans who pay his wages. He was moaning that the conditions were not up to his standard, but he was coming from the richest football club in the world and the Irish football team just cant compete with the funds Man Utd have, of course the facilities wont be at the same standard

Equal Rights! Sports Illustrated reporter Melissa Ludtke had a run-in. When Major League Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn prohibited Ludtke from interviewing players in the locker room during the 1977 World Series, SI publisher Time Inc., filed a lawsuit. The following year, a U.S. federal judge ruled that male and female reporters should have equal access to the locker room. By the mid 1980s, all four major professional sports leagues (NFL, NHL, NBA, Major League Baseball) had adopted policies in compliance with the U.S. court ruling on equal access, and female sports reporters had become more commonplace in the locker room. Nonetheless, several of these women learned that, while they were allowed into the locker room, they were not welcomed there. "Changing the rules doesn't necessarily alter attitudes," Ludtke observed.

LOL Hell yeah these armchair sportsmen ought to be executed every time they step over the line. Me I could care less about sports and I think that TV/Radio should cut back on the commentary programmes. My general opinion of football is Twenty Two overpaid @ssholes running around a big field chasing a leather, or whatever it's made of, bag filled with air

Everybody has the right to enjoy their sports. The time it gets taken way too seriously is when HIGH STAKE BETS are placed. I've seen this happen, a house payment can't be made, food can't be bought for the innocent victims, the children, etc.- over a stupid sports bet. People who take it this seriously need MAJOR help. So, no, you are not crazy re: ur question.

I agree. I only play sport if it is fun. It is taken far too seriously, why, because money, the root of all evil has crept into the equation. Can you imagine how many productive man hours are lost or weight gained just sitting in front of a TV set "chilling out".

Everyone around me that likes sports take it so serious. Like if its football and the guy drops the ball its a huge deal. I don't understand it because it isn't like if there team wins we are getting money for it. We just get to brag about how good are team is and how bad the other is...I just don't see the point in getting mad over sports.

I do. I guess most people forget that its only a GAME of football or whatever sport you like. It´s meant to be a way to spend some time, to entertain you, not the reason to be happy on a Sunday.

Can't remember his name but the guy who coached the Italian team at the 1994 world cup said this...
"Football is the most important of all the least important things in the world."
I never heard a better description.

It is taken too seriously. I don't understand that sort of mentality. I like sports on weekends when I'm with friends, but playing not watching.
