you are gonna get SOOOO scammed.

Someone sent 5k . THE check will bounce or be counterfit AFTER you wire the funds. Take it to the police.

Unless you applied to the program toss it out!!!! One very popular scam it to mail out the bogust checks under the guise of you becoming a Mystery shopper. They ask you to deposit the check right away in your account and start shopping ASAP.
They then ask yopu to wire them the balance!!! NONSENSE!!
Most legitimate companies will either send you a preloaded visa or mastercard gift card or send you reimbursement checks for the spicific items they have asked you to buy. This sounds very much like the "You have won the lottery you never entered" scam. Or the typical craigslist "I will send you a cashiers check for $2000 more then what you are asking for you 84 cavalier. Just wire me the difference" scam

If they have a contact number call and ask. If no contact number or local address? RUN to the nearest shredder and get rid of it. Once you have deposited that check in your account they have you account info and can drin you dry!!!
Be Careful!!!!!!!!

If you registered to do a mystery shop for a company, I'd get in contact with that company. $4998.00 seems like an awful lot just to shop a few stores....

It sounds fishy, though, because they want YOU to wire THEM money....

It's a scam - stay away. Especially the part about wiring money. The check you got won't turn out to be valid - if you wire the money, you'll be out that much.
