I have just been away for the weekend and spent a lot of money on clothes I didn't really need, but wanted. I don't really feel bad, but it got me thinking. What have you ever bought that you SO regret buying, and what did you do about it?

Iritadragon, I also had some great meals (the Belgians do it so well) chocolate, and the weather was so hot we sunbathed on the beach. In England it is pouring with rain and freezing.

Welcome home Shan! Apart from the shopping, did you do anything else this weekend, that you can tell us about?

To answer your question...about the only thing I can remember being really upset at myself for was the two year subscriptions to a bunch of magazines that I didn't want or need. (The salesman sure was a cutey though!)

Well it wasn't clothes, since I have to make sure I really need
something before I go to buy. My biggest regret was buying
a lead sale, from a furniture store on a Simmons' mattress
and box spring about five years ago. It started 'sinking'
after the first few weeks. We returned to the store and talked
to the owner. He applied what we'd paid onto another model
of the same brand. This one also started sinking shortly after
the purchase. Each time, we had to pay more for the better
model. We finally stopped when the last model was in the
$1,000.00 price range. And was called "Back Comfort" I
think. The owner wouldn't let us go up any higher, for some
reason. Probably because he'd already taken back in three
used mattress sets he had to dispose of.
The set we were stuck with, also sunk on each side and
made 'hollows' like sleeping in hammocks. I developed
more back trouble, as did my hubby. Now we sleep on
recliners for back support in the living room and use the
bedroom for storage, after selling the bed. I would never
recommend the Simmons brand to anyone, needless to say.

Hi, Yes I have had buyers remorse, usually when I get home, not because I regretted what I had bought but because I felt guilty about spending money on something I didn't really need. I have had more regrets about things I didn't buy though, once or twice in the past I could have moved house and didn't, then saw the price shoot up afterwards. Still you can't take it with you.

Shan, yes, I have and do have buyers remorse. Three years ago, we purchased a house in the town where my daughter lives. Now, we did this as she is in very ill health and it was taking me two hours to get to her from where we did live.

In the process of looking for a home, my husband fell in love with the home in which we currently live. This was the first time he ever chose one of our homes in the thirty-five years we have been together. So, I thought it only right to let him make this choice as I always seemed to make the earlier choices.

Oh geesh! He thought that we should have plenty of room in case we needed to take Cindy, my daughter, back into our home...as we have had to do many times now! So, in looking at his logic, I agreed. So, now I spend much of my day doing nothing but, cleaning. There are four bedrooms, three bathrooms, two dining areas, one living room, one den and a media room. I have two kitchens, indoor and outdoor. This makes the square footage around 3300! Now, this is alot of house cleaning!

Had I not felt bad about pointing out all the negatives, then I am sure that we would not have bought this home. I kept quiet though as I said, he loved this house!! However, I cannot change the light bulbs in the chandeliers as they are way too tall! How do I keep them dusted? How can I change the lights? I am so height challenged that I look like a monkey, in the kitchen, crawling around on the cabinets to get out the dishes I need!

In as much, I do have buyers remorse but, my husband loves this house even more now. So, this has taught me to speak up, even if I have to disappoint someone. In the long run, it would have been better had I discussed all of this with him...I just thought it fair that he choose the home, for once.

Biggest mistake ever was buying that used boat and having a friend who bought a used motor for it. We merrily fished for salmon on the Straits of Juan de Fuca for a couple of hours. Then the motor required a series of repairs, a terrible storm began to swamp the boat, and I had to demolish the small cabin with a sledge hammer to keep from being blown all the way to Alaska. We fought for our lives amid swells that seemed like mountains. 30 minutes in that water would have killed us if the boat went down, but we made it home (miraculously).

The problem was not the boat or the motor; it was us. We had made a series of foolish decisions. The incident encouraged me to learn more about myself and to become a much more grounded person (no pun intended). I am no longer a consumerist.

I only get buyers remorse when I spend waaay too much money, that I don't really have. This weekend I purchased a gym membership for my b/f and I. and well they were offering 4 months free and a 100.00 gift card to the salon if I prepaid for the year. Which in the long run I end up saving more money.... but the truth is I only have about 3,000 in my savings and everything costed 1,700, now I am not feeling soo good.... so now I am just trying to ratinalize and say well I needed it and it really will be cheaper, but can I take the hit this month?? because now it's too late

Only when I see my credit card bill at the end of the month. Actually, once i was really bored and lonely so I went out and bought two gerbils, they were so cute and furry!! The sodding things do nothing but make a mess and noise all night but now I'm obliged to look after them. That was an impulse buy a serious regret - they are still cute though and I do look after them properly nonetheless.

I was told one couldn't buy a xp computer so I bought a Vista. I found it hard to install and sent it back. Someone on Q&A told me I could phone Dell and get xp made so that is what I did. It was delivered on the 28th.of September and it is compatable to my dell printer. I was angry at spending the money on a Vista but it all worked out in the end.

Before my son, a '92 Harley Davidson Fatboy motorbike. Mistake.
After my son, I buy mostly for him. When I ordered my school books, I commented to my sister, "This is actually the first time in a long time that I've ordered books with more than 100 words in them." (and isn't about trains). No buyers remorse for anything I buy for him.

Well if you have ever watched TLC where they do house flipping, some of those morons will buy a house and spend WAY too much money renovating it then it ends up sitting on the market for months where they have to keep paying mortgage payments on it.
You really feel for the poor fools... especially when they're poor to begin with.

To the people who say "no regrets: eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die" it is important that you enjoy life, but always prepare for the future. Today's spending spree could be tomorrow's heartache. You should always be prepared for the worst, just don't let it be the center of your life.
