There are a load of materials you can use to make polymer clay molds (and also a lot of items and materials you can use to "texture" it or to make "texture plates)" including polymer clay itself.

Instead of listing them all here, I have a whole page of materials and techniques for making molds for polymer clay, as well as releases which may sometimes be needed, etc., on this page at my polymer clay "encyclopedia" website:
http://glassattic.com/polymer/molds.htm

You might also want to check out this page for making "shallow" molds:

Have fun ... and watch out because making molds is totally addicting!!

You can use polymer clay its self. The end result will be a relief of what you make for a mold. Check out the Cloisonne pin pattern on HGTV.com under Carol Duvall video library search polymer clay. Have fun! I love polymer clay projects!
