Whenever I have to sit for an extended period of time not doing anything I get so tired and I struggle to keep my eyes open. This is especially embarassing when I'm in a meeting, mind you. I have a reasonable diet, I'm moderately active and for obvious reasons I have to get up and walk around every 20 minutes when I'm at work. I don't think I have narcolepsy....and I definitely don't fall asleep behind the wheel. I average 6-7 hours of sleep. Could I be deprived of certain nurtients or should I just get to bed sooner?

Have you ever thought about having a sleep study done to see if you have sleep apnea which is a deprivation of oxygen which you can sleep but not get the needed rest because your body is struggling to get oxygen. Which in turn makes you tired. Symptoms are falling a sleep or nodding off while sitting and feeling tired all the time.

You're likely not getting QUALITY sleep. Talk to your doctor. He or she can investigate what is going on with you. Most people with the same symptoms you have are suffering from sleep apnea, a very dangerous condition in which your brain doesn't get enough oxygen during the night. It can cause death, so it's not anything to mess around with. If your doctor can't find anything, he/she can order a sleep study. You definitely need help with this from a pro. Good luck!

You're possibly bored or the chair is so comfortable that you fall asleep. My advice would just keep yourself occupied. Play with something in your hands during a meeting or change your seating position every few minutes.
