I think probably if we wanted to think discrimination against the older folks, we need to contain it to Social Security and Medicare. But, it's so depressing!
$5,000.00 to each newborn for whatever reason a parent decides is inequality to those born before. But then, obviously, she's not thinking about that. She's also not thinking about all those anchor babies, either. Now I'm getting really depressed!

This system is working very well here in Australia. The "baby bonus" scheme has been in place for several years. At the moment it is A$3000 and next year goes up to $4000 per baby born or adopted.
The idea behind it is this ....we Baby Boomers will be retiring soon , and what with the "zero populations growth " of recent times, in 20 years we will have a very small number of working tax-payers supporting many , many older people. So our fearless leaders came up with this incentive, in order to boost the numbers of prospective tax-payers in the future.
The government slogan about this is, "Have one child for the mother, one for the father.....and one for the country !"
The system is working, too ! In the years since it began, the birth rate has gone from 2 per couple to 3, and still climbing.
Sure, some dopey people will spend the money on plasma -screen TV's and jet skis, but the vast majority use it for sensible things. And, in 20 years time, we will have these nice young people working to pay their taxes so we won't all be broke. It seems like a very sensible solution to me !

The idea of the 'state' paying for new births is certainly not new, as families who procreate are assisted financially in some European countries, also. Attached to that assistance is a goal of having the family not riddled by expense; able to have one member in the home until the child reaches a certain age; and encouraging family values.

Of course this will be on top of Earned Income Credit, Adoption Credits, Education Credits, Medicaid, Wick and all the other perks for children. None of which were around when I was raising mine. Hiliary had one child and has no concept of what survival and fairness is. My pet peeve is Senators and Congressmen getting SS and never having to pay in--of course on top of their salaries for a life time. Hmmm, get out and vote and gripe to your senators, they often have little else to do besides jump on a band wagon.

I hadn't heard this, but I agree. I have one, who is 28. I had a hysterectomy last year, but had no intentions of trying at my age anyway. (It's time for me to enjoy life) I wish she & all the other politians would do more to promote birth control. We have an overpopulation problem & it seems like the people who can least afford them have the most kids.

Oh dear, I think you are really reaching down to the bottom of the barrel for this one. I certainly have my doubts. Retro-active? Hmmm Probably not. Just don't vote for the lady.

You could make that argument for most of the ways your tax dollars are spent. Don't like the war, why should I pay for it. Have problems with with socialized medicine for the elderly, I don't want to pay for it. Don't have kids, why pay school taxes. This is the reason we have elections.
