I have a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina that isn't worth much of anything but is in pretty good shape being that it's at the 100,000 mile mark. The only problem I have with it is that if I don't drive it every 8 hours like clock work, it won't start. I've replaced the battery several times but it always did the same thing 8 hours later. I've paid $900.00 to a mechanic that was able to fix a lot of the wiring from a previous accident but he doesn't even know why it does that. Any suggestions? I have another car as backup that is a 2007.

This has been happening for a year and a half. Shortly after I was involved in a head on collision which the mechanic has concluded is responsible for all of the loose wiring. He checked all of the fuses and everything when I took it in. The air wasn't working and neither were the brake lights. He fixed that. But it still dies if I don't drive it every 8 hours. He told me to get rid of it, lol, but I like this car for a second ride. Yes, it works with or without a new battery, all I have to do is jump it and make sure I drive it everyday.

your car has a battery drain, to find it you need a amp meter, connect you negative lead to the terminal mark comp ( on the amp meter) connect the positive lead to the terminal mark amp, select 10 or 20 amps, disconnect negative cable, connect the positive lead ( amp meter ) to the negative cable ( battery cable ) and connect the negative lead ( amp meter ) to negative battery post, you should read 0.5 amps or less if you have a higher reading start pulling fuses one by one until you read ) 0.5 amps. if you read 0.5 or less replace battery.

Nothing you have said here and nothing you have done over the past 5 years is pathetic. At all. It's the things you do for the person you are in love with. Almost everyone has been in this position at one time in their life. I was dumped after a 7 year relationship that started in high school and ended when i was 23. I am 29 now. It blows. It really does but as the long days pass it gets better. It takes some time though. You just have to go through the process. There will be good days and some bad days. Really bad days. Just stay busy, try to reconnect with old friends ad family members. Staying busy will make the days seem shorter but only time will heal you and then you can move on. Which you will do. Im living proof, as well as many others here, that there is life after losing your first love. Especially when you lose all hope and you think you could never love another or have what you guys have. You may think no one will ever love you like she did etc etc etc. Don't focus on her moving on. Focus on you moving on. Because you will.

The only two things that I know of that could cause this is a short in the wiring or a faulty alternator. Have you noticed any loss in power? How long has this been going on?
A bad alternator will usually make itself known by an eventual loss in power like the lights dimming or the car becoming sluggish. An active short (my guess) would cause the battery to drain the same as leaving a light on. Have you checked fuses?

With a good battery does it crank? bad alternator will drain the battery!Bad or shorted starter or starter solenoid could do the same. As much wiring as you say he has been doing it could be anything, neutral safety switch, Coil or coil wiring bad, o2 sensor, Distributor or wiring, Etc. with more detailed info. it's hard to say. Get the mechanic to get some one that knows that system/engine better look at it.
