Both.
1. Because the way marijuana was made illegal in the first place was completely unjust. (See 1st link below for this explanation).
2. People have been taught lies about marijuana (reefer madness) and most don't know the truth about it (2nd link includes myths).
3. It is listed under Schedule I in our drug laws (meaning it has no medical use) and has obviously already been proven to have a medical use which should automatically enter it into Schedule II.
4. Hemp is a better source in making paper, clothing, etc and is more durable.

There are way more reasons than this, but if someone really wants to know the truth, just click the links below.

A lot of people think that the only reason we want it legalized is 'cause we're a bunch of druggies etc.., but that is completely the opposite. I think people that are sick and need marijuana to help them cope with terminal illnesses or glaucoma or whatever purposes it has to help others, should be allowed. There is no reason that someone should be denied a medication that they know will help them, just because a bunch of greedy fools that existed in the earlier part of the 20th century, scared everyone who was ignorant of marijuana to gain profits.

If you want a reason for why it should be legalized period besides medical uses then lets start with a couple.

1. The current drug laws aren't working (just like prohibition). The government spends billions of dollars a year just for fighting marijuana. This money could not only go for something more useful, but would also save money in a sense of all the room in the prisons and jails that are taken up by people caught with marijuana.
2. The things that are legal (alcohol and cigarettes) are actually dangerous. Alcohol causes liver failure with long term use and you can actually overdose and die from consuming too much. Cigarettes are proven to cause cancer as well as many unwanted diseases. I know just because things that are harmful that are legal doesn't exactly mean we should legalize marijuana, but it seems funny to me something you can't overdose on, doesn't cause cancer, and has never caused a death has to be illegal. Things that are made illegal are things that are potentially harmful and are made illegal to protect everyone, but if there is nothing harmful about it, what is the point of trying to stop it?

Marijuana should be legal if not for the simple fact that people should have the right to do or put what ever they want in to their own body. But for economic reasons the number of people thrown in jail for Marijuana related crimes is just stupid high and the fact that the "War on drugs" Cost us billions every year is just stupid. Face it prohibition didn't work against alcohol and its not working against Marijuana the only difference is that people are taught from a young age that Marijuana is bad and that is that. There is no education on the drug just yellow journalism.

I think medical marijuana should be legal, but only for certain diagnoses. People shouldn't be able to say they are using medical marijuana for "anxiety" or vague illnesses.

I am still on the fence about legalizing marijuana generally.

All marijuana should be legal. I have chronic nausea, and always feel blah, but pot really helps. Even before I was physically sick, I was depressed, have insomnia, and get really anxious. Pot helps that too. Marijuana should be legalized for everybody over 18. Not just cancer patients. Government could tax it, and if it was sold in shops, there would be less worry about it being laced, or if a person was getting a bad deal.

Since medical marijuana has passed and got approved by stringent trials associated with the medical industry, I will bow to the greater power of their wisdom.
Since the legal portion of the government denies marijuana any form of approval for distribution to the masses, who am I to say it should be legalized when it is already deemed illegal?
My answer is based on judgment from collective knowledge of the whole vs my own ignorance on the matter.

I think they should legalize it all together, sell it in gas stations like cigs., I haven't smoked in years, so please do not assume I am just another stoner, think of how much the government could make by taxing it, and in my opinion it is safer than alcohol, how many people do you hear getting in car wrecks from marijuana? how many abusive pot heads do you know? If they were to legalize it, think how much the county would save on taxes for having drug related inmates in their jails. You would no longer have the drug runs gone bad, there for less people would get killed.... think about it.

In some states it is already legal, to a degree. The media makes it sound way more dangerous than it is. i mean, would you rather drink a bunch of alcohol, puke, and get a hangover, or do a little puff puff and feel high for a couple, hours.

I think pot should be legal for medical uses. It is a good pain-reliever and helps increase appetite.

I'm not sure about making pot legal for recreational use, but I wouldn't oppose such a law.

I think that pot should be legal, for whatever reason you want to use it for! The government outlawed it because they believed it would casue the black slaves to go crazy and kill people. This is obviously an extreme overstatement! Lets end this ignorance and legalize it!!

i believe marijuana should be decriminilized, but this wont take place until a breathalyzer type device is invented, so it can be regulated like alcohol.
