How can you put money into the account?
Can I do a direct transfer from my current bank?
Do I have to mail a check?

ALL of these questions are processed, handled for you...when you actually open the account. Etrade, once you've gotten thru the application (maybe, now, shortly after the account opening process is complete...) there are options for "how to fund your account".
This will include, mailing a check, transfering existing postions from other firms, and "transferring funds from your personal checking/savings account".
You "do not" have to mail in a check...but you can if "electronic" processing of money worries you.

Having been a broker for the last 15 years I am shocked that youe would have to come to a message board for this answer. Your broker should be more than happy to answer these questions for you and hold your hand through the whole process. If he's to busy to help you open an account with him, then you will never get help from him as a customer.
