Depends on stain (if sits too long it oxidizes & becomes permanent). Most stains on washable material try:
full strength liquid laundry detergent on stain & rub/scrub in it, repeat as needed (without rinsing). After stain out toss in machine load or rinse out thoroughly (don't let that dry or will have a 'soap' stain).

My son got chocolate on his white shirt and washed it himself with out any stain remover, and the Tide pen got it right out. I think it had a few things like blood that it won't work on.

There is a product similiar to Shout, it is called Zout. I loved it when my son was small, becuase everything came out!

The longer it stays on the cloth, the tougher it is to remove.

use Shout. The gel works great on most anything.
