Yes, I live in Hull, and don't want to get ripped off by Kingston Communications. In fact, I'm prepared to pay over the odds to avoid KC's monopoly.

I'll take it down the electricity cable, via satellite, wireless, any way other than mildly accepting Karoo, because I feel so strongly about letting market forces operate.

If you can give me a good answer to this question, you deserve a medal.

Two options. You can use satellite, then you need a satellite receiver(dish) and a subscription. The other option is go mobile. Most mobile carriers offer Internet connection for your computer. I don't know how much it will cost or how fast the mobile will be but my guess is pretty expensive for the connection speed. The bet option if you feel as strongly as you say and want a good connection is invest in the expensive satellite and pray you don't regret it. Kudos to you for standing for free markets and an end to monopoly.

There is satellite Internet but it's more expensive than DSL or cable Internet.
You use a satellite dish to receive the Internet.

You could subscribe to Vodafone or O2's Mobile Connect Card. It fits the pcmcia slot in a laptop. It's pricey at around £50 for a gigabyte's worth of download per month. I had it for several years when I lived on a boat.

you can connect via your mobile phone or satelite.

both are not an alternative for anyone on a tight budget! (most people from hull lol)

its pretty unfair that those of you in hull get absolutely no choice.

Yeah, and if you can get broad band without a phone line, you deserve a medal! Change you phone server (if others exist) otherwise get satellite.

Satellite is probably your only alternative. You could try Semaphore of course.
