I was wondering which is the best security software around, McAfee, norton? Defender? I find norton to be very annoying, it's so difficult to install, and when you already have installed it gets corrupted and then you have to waste 3 hours installing it again.
It has to have a sophisticated anti-virus and a really good anti spyware, It also has to have a firewall.

It also has to be a very small program, less than 300MB, I'm strict with disk space.
Also tell me how big the program is.

The being that exists between the keyboard and the chair is the very best computer device.
To avoid problems:
Keep your Windows fully patched and all your software and updated by going to Windows Updates at least once a month, or set up your comp for automatic updates.
Don't use Limewire or any other P2P file sharing programs. Much of the "stuff" you can steal with it are filled with viruses, spyware, trojans and worms.
Never open any e-mail if you don't know the sender. Spam e-mail is a major virus infection vector.
Never click a link in an offline instant message, they often take you to an infected website.
Use a firewall and NEVER disable it even for a minute. Without a firewall, your computer can become infected within minutes. A firewall is your friend; it is there to protect you from hackers and malware. Learn how to configure it properly instead of disabling it, if a game or a program won't work.
Update both your anti-virus and anti-spyware every day. New malware comes out every hour of every day. An un-updated anti-malware program cannot catch the new threats.

Here is a little online security tool called The Secunia Software Inspector, that scans a computer for un-secure, un-updated and un-patched apps that may be installed on your computer.
The Secunia Software Inspector checks for possibly vulnerable programs like Adobe, Winamp, Java etc. and notifies if critical security updates are needed. Takes about 30 seconds and the results might suprise you!
Will work using IE, Opera or Firefox.
Pretty cool and free of course at:

Following the above hints will stop 99% of your virus and malware problems, you may not even need any sort of an anti-virus program.
Good luck.

Well, all have their good and bad. But Kaspersky has the best detection rate. Norton isn't real popular with the Y!A community and with good reason. It slows down your computer. The best thing to do is have a good anti virus along with 2-3 anti spywares and update both along with updating you security with Windows. And scan your computer daily.

Not a fair question.
The technology is always changing sometimes for the good sometimes not.
When Peter Norton owned the company Norton Antivirus was the best, then was shuffled down the aldder by McAfee and they wer then shuffled down the list by several. You will not get one piece of software that will do everything you want. I use 3

so a good distance as with the flexibility to declare that one unfastened anti-virus is greater perfect than yet another, i do no longer think of i'd desire to offer a solution. I even have used AVG, Avast, and right this moment i'm utilising Microsoft secure practices necessities all of that have been unfastened downloads. easily particularly than with the flexibility to declare that's the terrific, i think of the optimal ingredient that any anti-_ _ _ application needs to make it effective is updates . . . updates . . . updates.

The top rated best internet security suites is BitDefender and Mcafee,Norton come after them.
For a comparison between top rated security suites go here:

If you need a lite one and take a very little disc space,I suggest you try ESET Smart Security..it's still in RC1 version but working very good, and the downloaded file is only 30MB!!

there is nothing that is foolproof ... its mostly the user and safe practices ... u need an antispyware .. an antvirus, a software firewall , and then use a nonstandard browser .. a hardware firewall is another option .. but my opinion is that u dont get more protected by buying a candy coated interfaced high-dollar application its just deceiving urself into false security .. i would just stick with the free ones like avast and spybot ... zonealarm and firefox ..
