You are to stand so that you are plainly visible should a customer require assistance. Then you can pounce and start selling.
You are required to look 'busy' all the time, dust the invisible dust, adjust the little pots and bottles and shine them up ad naseum. Etc.
Not very humane.
Then again, sitting all day and staring at a computer is not a picnic either.

Covergirl Aquasmooth is great. It is easy to put on and it is really natural looking. I have had a number of people comment on how great my skin looks and they usually think that I don't wear makeup. Unfortunately, I'm beginning to sound like a commercial, lol, but I really do recommend it. As for colors and ways to apply the makeup, you can go to most department stores and get a free makeover. They will probably give you some good tips. JCPenney's is a good place to go because the people aren't usually as snobby as they are at Nordstroms, and they won't make you feel really dumb for not knowing much. You could also ask your girlfriends for a makeover. Many of my female friends love giving makeovers.

Do you see ANYONE working in a department store with a seat? No. Department Store employees do not sit on the job.

I've worked in several stores (never at the cosmetics counter) and I never had a place to sit. As far as management is concerned, I'm not there to sit; I'm there to work.

they're paid to stand up and chase customers to try/buy their products. Why need seats for doing that???
That's all it takes. That's why not many people wanna do this job ( unless somebody is desperate for money ).
The same job when you work in a hotel ( front desk ) . I had done it before, standing for hours and my feet hurt so bad. I quit less than 3 mnths.

It's all retail jobs, not just cosmetics. I worked as a cashier and wondered this myself. Standing on your feet for eight hours does make you miserable at the end of the day.

Well, if they were able to sit down, then they would have those forced grimaces - I mean phony smiles - I mean extremely toothy grins on their faces to greet you when you walk by.
They must stand on their high heels all day. That way, they grit their teeth in discomfort, which consumers are lead to believe are smiles.

Ha! Good question. Take a look around. no one really sits at a retail job. You have to stand to look ready and willing to help customers!

trust me they dont' care about foot pain and the reason they don't have a place to sit is because they are suppose to be working and if they can't find anything they are suppose to ask for someting.

It's lie this plain and simple. Dumb people work jobs where they stand or walk all day. Smart people work jobs where they sit around all day behind a desk.
