I've torn both, had the left one cut. Go into a orthopedist - replacing it may be in your future. At least physical therapy. Sucks but things do work out the best after 2-3 months. I'm running on it now with no pain.

Suffered a complete tear of both my ACL and MCL 30 years ago before some of the latest advances in joint surgery. It ended my college football career. Had reconstructive knee surgery, a year in a full leg cast and brace, had to learn how to walk normal again, another 6 months of PT, had 3 additional surgeries to clean out scar tissue. It was probably 5 years before the knee felt somewhat back to normal but even to this day it still swells up and gets stiff at times. Now a days the same type of injury would probably be 2 years at max to get back to playing condition and it would not have necessarily ended my career.

I tore my meniscus and partially tore my ACL a couple of years ago. My knee swelled like a baloon right after I did it. I had surgery, in which they took out part of my meniscus, and repaired part of my ACL. I had been taking glucosamine, which actually regrew some of my ACL that had been torn. I didn't get the surgery until about two years after the injury, I didn't have insurance. It felt like someone was sticking knives into my knee if I bent it the wrong way. It's been about three years since the surgery, and it still gives me problems from time to time. It swells where they made the cuts to put the arthroscopic utensils into my knee.
Yes, once you hurt your ligaments, it will never be the same. Just be glad you didn't tear anything. Go and get some glucosamine from GNC, it helps lubricate your joints, and it really helps aleviate the pain.

I've torn the ACL in both right and left knees, and tore up the meniscus in my left. let me tell you from experience, get several opinions on your knee.

when I first tore mine I had a doctor tell me it was a sprained hamstring! he said i could play ball again once the swelling went down, which I did and ended up screwing up my knee a lot worse. turns out it was torn from the beginning and I damaged my knee much worse than if I would have had a correct diagnosis. so get it checked out by an orthopedic surgeon or a team trainer, they usually know these injuries

yup. ACL's don't heal on their own. There isn't enough vascularity in the area to promote healing. Eventually your condition will deteriorate. I had my ACL replaced 9 years ago and my repaired knee is stronger and more stabile than my unrepaired knee...

I tore my cartiliage in left knee. Had a surgery, 30% taken out. Recovered from it nicely in few months. No problems afterwards. I consider it pretty much nothing, but ACL, MCL, PCL...jeez.

Have you been checked out by an orthopod? Have an mri to see if it is torn or not. If it is damaged it's going to give you problems. Or else you'll just have to limit your activity to not include hard side-to-side movements. Or use a brace to help support it if you don't trust it or it feels weak.
