i had this done after my 3rd child.(i was absolutely positive that i did not want any more children) i have forgotten the name of it but an incision was made in my bellybutton and my fallopian tube was pulled out and clamped and cut and then as my uterus shrunk from the pregnancy my ovaries lowered back down to their natural position.(if i remember correctly). i had no complications but i was sore for a few days. i felt this was a great option for me. i went home as though i had only had a child and no more appointments for the pill or scheduling a surgery for later on when i am busy with all the kids.(think 6 week old colic and sibly rivalry and mounds of laundry, well then again a hospital trip at this time might sound like vacation :-) it has been 5 years and i am doing great. oh and i was put completely under for the surgery.

I had it done after my third child eleven years ago. He was delivered at 5:45 and it was done about 11:00. I was put under and did not have any complications. My doctor suggested that I wait until after my six weeks checkup but I insisted. He said that everything was still swollen and needed the time to heal first. I wish that I would have listened. It was hard to get up and down because there was a lot of pain in my abdomen and with the episiotomy. My episiotomy quit hurting weeks before my stomach did. Congratulations!

You could ask your doctor to have a regional anesthetic like an epidural instead of a general if you are concerned about being put under for the surgery. Good luck and have a great birth.

I agree tell your MD your fears -

I had mine done during the -c-section
see what your options are and tell them being put out concerns you -
