My cd drive on my computer is stuck open. It feels like it has come off track (2 year old was playing with it.) I can't figure out how to unplug the cable from the back of it. I don't want to just tug hard and break the cable.

Tug hard, it's probably an IDE cable, and they get stuck in there pretty well. I've never had a problem breaking cables in what I do.

How to Remove a Stuck CD/DVD From Your Computer

Has your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM or any other device eaten a CD/DVD, and isn't letting it out? If you want to take that CD/DVD out of your CD-ROM, and the Eject button is not working, then you are at the right place. Follow the steps below in order to take out the disk of your CD or DVD ROM.

1. Unbend a paperclip.
2. Look very closely at the area around the CD/DVD drive door until you find a really small hole - it almost looks like an accident (probably just below the door).
3. Insert the paperclip in the hole (don't be afraid).
4. Push the paperclip gently to press the spring-loaded latch.
5. Your CD/DVD tray should open right up.
· Tip: Unfortunately, this doesn't work with most TV DVD players.
· Warning: Don't go around sticking paper clips into other parts of your computer willy-nilly!

It's true - you can pull pretty good on those cables. They are usually tough to get off. Don't be gentle.

But one thing that comes to mind is after you get the cd drive out, what are you going to do? If the drive is toast, forget it.

A dvd/cd burner all-in-one type of drive is dirt cheap now.

You won't break the cable, just pull it off from the back. It sounds like the power cable is loose, Make sure it is in tight.
