A kite and a parallelogram are not the same thing UNLESS it is a rhombus.
With a kite, 2 pairs adjacent sides have equal lengths.
With a parallelogram, opposite sides have equal lengths.

I think an ordinary kite's shape is better be classified as rhombus. Both the parallelogram and the rhombus have similar dimensions which has two parallel lines. A rhombus is a parallelogram but with all side equal in length. Most of the time it
looks like a twisted square. I used to design a kite with similar length dimensions, to have a good balance and stability.

a kite is not a parallelogram. a parallelogram's OPPOSITE sides are parallel and equal in length. a kite has 2 pairs of ADJACENT sides that are equal in length.
