I'm about to change from a PC Laptop to a Mac Laptop, but because of some of the programs I have to use I need to get a parallel version of a Mac.
Can I use the Windows XP disc that came with my old laptop to install on my Mac? Or will I have to buy another Windows XP disc?

1) You can run Windows on a Mac these days, if you couldn't I wouldn't be asking this question.
2) Just read on the website for the Parallel software that you can "Migrate your existing PC to your Mac", will that just mean the files or do you think it'll mean the OS as well?

You can't install Windows XP on a Mac, Period! The two are not compatible. I'm sure there are workarounds, but you'd probably need to be a computer genius to figure it out.

If it is the retail/boxed version of XP then, yes, with boot camp or parallels you can install it on your Mac.
If it is a restore disk (like what you can get w/Dell laptops) then unfortunately no, you cannot use it.
just another example of Microsoft's intent to control all aspects of your computer usage despite the fact that it makes the users' lives more difficult.
ps- -congratulations on getting a Mac!! i want a new one (I have a 1G G4 and it is still snappy compared to the much newer 1.66G Dell laptop i use at work)

Its possible just not very easy or stable. You depends on which Mac. You can use bootcamp to dual boot 2 os's. But its a pain in the *** to be honest. Your getting a mac so you know its got OSX if you want xp buy a windows based pc. Its just more stable, and the newer macs can dual boot better.

no neil, theres many reasons why you cannot use your xp disk on your mac laptop
first the architecture of a mac laptop is completely different to a xp laptop ,and also macs do not have a bios, were as windows relys on a bios for the correct functioning of the os
you can buy emulator software to allow windows xp to run on a mac p.c and visa versa however its best to buy a computer specificly designed for mac or windows
hope this helps
good luck mate !

If you are talking about the Macbook Pro Core2 Duo.
They will furnish you with both Vista in the newest and XP in the first models to run with OSX
Microsoft's Software Now requires you to have a code key to unlock the software, and by law you can only have one computer at a time with a given software for a single computer, by there licensing agreement

No that is called pirating, and Microsoft will shut you down immediatley if you try to do that. You would need to be another operating system disc and drivers to install on your mac.
Its just not fair is it?
