I have an old broken cast iron chair. Is it possible to weld it or is there some other way?

Most but not all cast iron can be welded. Since most cast irons are of unspecified chemical composition, you can only find out by trying. Here's the procedure.

1) The rod should be of high nickel content. Most people prefer to use a 99% nickel, although a 55% nickel *might* work.

2) clean the surface.

3) preheat to 600 degrees F.

4) weld the parts together

5) peen with a ball peen hammer while hot (to relieve stresses)

6) cover with an insulating substance, sand works well, so it wil cool slowly.

This is a job best left to professionals.

You use stainless steel rods to weld cast iron. However it is not practical to repair a cracked cylinder head as the subsequent thermal movement would almost certainly cause a repeat fracture. Your best bet is either an exchange reconditioned head, or visit a breaker's yard. Most car breakers are very helpful and will tell you what they have in stock over the phone rather than you having to search. It might also be worth contacting the Toyota Owners Club as they often have a parts for sale section.

Yeah. Rods for cast iron are square in shape. It's tricky to do. Brazing usually works out okay on cast iron, except stoves. For a chair, brazing should be okay.

Yes - it can be welded by using special welding rods.

It can be brazed, or welded with special rod. I think it is called Nirod.
