Israel is composed of Jewish voters and a Palestinian underclass of millions. That is a totalitarian, non democratic state. If you want to look at a moderately democratic regime, I suggest you look into Iran. It's not Athens, but compared to US allies like the Saudis, I would have to say they are democratic.

Turkey would have been a good coutner argument. Not the best, since the population democratically denied the US the use of its territory for the purpose of invading Iraq.

1. Israeli Arabs do vote. My bad. They are treated like second class citizens and their only member in the Knesset is in exile because he is being charged with supporting terrorism for giving money to Arab charities.

Democracy? only for the Spartans. The Palestinians are no more than Helots, slaves in their own land.

There are very few governments in the Middle East that are democracies in any form. Egypt basically has a one-party system. Lebanon is actually moving towards full democracy. Israel is basically the only real democracy there, despite your assertion that it is a totalitarian state. Are you aware that Israeli Arabs not only have full rights, including the right to vote, but that there have been many Arabs elected to Knesset, and even Arab cabinet members? And no multi-party state could be called totalitarian in any case.

There are 12 Arab members of the current Knesset. And I'll repeat: Israeli Arabs have the same rights as Israeli Jews. In fact, Israeli Arabs have far more rights than most Arabs in Muslim nations.

Who knows, but why would the US be required to ally itself with Democratic governments. As much as we are the world police, their are limitations as to what we can impose. Our form of government works for us, but that doesn't mean another country's system makes them an incompatible ally. Several of our European allies favor more socialism. China is more commmunist. There are our allies, and we have no problems with them (well, not really).

Because generally, the populance of these countries hate us. There are a large number of muslims that would like to see the US ruled by Sharia law. They would also like to convert us by force. They keep these feelings quiet for now, but if they ever get the upper hand...be ready.
