A song's been running through my head that I really liked in the early 80's. It was by a band with (i think) 3 names in it's name (something like James Michael Murphy Band) but I'm not sure it was those names and the song was about the band returning from being on the road for a long time. The only words I can remember in the song are "I'm coming home". This song is driving me crazy. I searched for it on Amazon and kept coming up with Ozzy based on the words "I'm coming home" and I'm certain thats not it. Please Help!!!

Sorry Tom, can't remember any more lyrics, just the tune. Also I don't think this band had any other songs that made it to the radio. This is driving me nuts!!!

Thanks for all your input. Unfortunately, I know all the songs you mentioned and none of them were the correct answer. I do appreciate you trying to help me though.

Michael Martin Murphy sang a song called "Wildfire" but it's about a girl that dies because she goes out in a "killer frost" to look for her horse that ran away.
The Walter Murphy Band performed "A fifth of Beethoven" on the "Saturday night Fever" soundtrack.
I doubt either of these are what you were looking for, I was focusing on the name rather than the lyric because that name sounded so familiar to me. Hope these help!

Peter Schilling's version of David Bowie's Major Tom (Coming Home)
far beneath the ship
the world is mourning
they don't realize
he's alive.
no one understands
but Major Tom sees
now the Light commands
this is my home
I'm coming home.

drifting, falling
floating, weightless
coming home
