No...not nearly enough. I realize it takes a lot of money (which we don't have) to embark on effective global advertising and promotion. But as it is now, DOT is doing its best to court/attract overseas Filipinos to make that balikbayan trip. That's a good start!!! And should be sustained. Tara na, byahe tayo! (Let's all visit home!)
Here's the official DOT website...their contact info is there ---

Yes, in some countries like Taiwan and Korea, there are local celebrities that act as endorsers of Philippine tourism. DOT attends several tourism expos in full force, presenting the country's various come-ons like the food, medical tourism, spa tourism, shopping, etc.
However, the problem why the country has such bad rap internationally is because the mainstream media only focus on everything bad about the Philippines. When was the last time you watched a film about the beautiful nature of the Philippines aside from Donsol? When was the last time you have watched a Philippine nature or cultural documentary?

I am in advertising, and I am positive the Philippines is not advertised enough.
If you look at the advertising spending of Thailand, Malaysia, India, HongKong, and Singapore, you will see that what we spend is not even a small fraction of what these countries are spending.
Worse, we are the country that badly needs advertising because we suffer the most from mis-information, or lack of information about what our country could offer.
We were once asked to do the material promoting Manila as a convention destination. Unfortunately, that material did not air at the proposed frequency simply because our government does not have the budget.
What can be done? In HongKong, the tourism-oriented establishments fund the activities of the HKTA (HongKong Tourism Association). The benefits of tourism accrue anyway to these people who bankroll the advertising.

No..... And I asked the same question as my first post on YAP. While I constantly read ads about travel to every other country in Asia or Southeast Asia, there is never one about the Philippines. One exception: The ads appear in some Filipino-owned newspapers in the U.S..
Perhaps we could let the Philippines' Department of Tourism of our concerns. We can tell them that, on several occasions in YAP, there were negative news about our country. That department must try to put the Philippines in a positive light in the mainstream media around the globe.
If anyone has the Dept. of Tourism's email address, please post it here. We can send our messages en masse.

No Philippines do not advertise enough. What gets advertise are the shenanigans, corruption, plunder, ghost projects, poverty, mistreated workers, neglected children ... etcetera. It gets splashed in international dailies and it's free.
