I have been making my own sheets using unbleached Egyptian cotton yardage for some 20 years. The first pair were very stiff indeed after the first wash and impossible to iron effectively. I treated myself by taking them to a laundry to be washed and ironed on the professional heated 'calendaring' metal rollers. They came back lovely, with a few small creases still. A month or so later I took them to the laundry again and they came back almost too easy to iron. After each wash they were practically creaseless, without ironing (except for the edges) and so-o-o smooth. I actually prefer my sheets with a little more body so have never had subsequent sheets professionally laundered more than the once.

Yes, all cotton sheets are hard to iron, although they do make some kind of 'easy to iron' sheets which are mostly cotton but have a small amount of other fibres in. I used to work in a bedlinen store and people always used to ask this and unfortunately 100% cotton sheets will always be a b*tch to iron!

They can be a nightmare, but if you look after them well when drying you'll have a head start. I would dry them outdoors on a washing line if possible, as this means they will be flat, and won't get creased like they can in a dryer. If you have to use a dryer, make sure you take them out and fold them carefully as soon as the cycle has finished. Once you get creases in them they are hard to get out, even with a good iron and lots of steam.

Very, I have egyptian cotton sheets which I don't use because it's just such hard work to iron them.

I wouldn't know. Ironing sheets is a waste of time.
