DVD movies on my LCD computer moniter. The dark scenes are all washed out. What can I do about it?

I have a new 19" LCD and when I watch reagular movies on it the lighter scenes are great. The darker scenes tend to be so dark I can't see what is happening. I have tryed adjusting the paramenters of my monitor and have not received and any improvement. I have tryed different players. None seem to solve this problem

Some video card software (such as ATI) come with special settings that you can change the gamma, brightness, contrast, etc. If you have something like that, try adjusting those. Otherwise, LCD are very difficult to watch 'dark' movies on.
