Gay marriage is legal in the countries of Belgium, Canada, Netherlands, South Africa, & Spain. Israel recognizes gay marriages performed in other countries. It is legal in the US state of Massachusetts but the federal US government does not recognize the marriage.

Although not marriage, same-sex partnerships are recognized in Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Iceland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, and the US states of Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey, California, Hawaii, Maine, Washington, and the District of Columbia. (The US states of New Hampshire and Oregon will begin recognizing same-sex partnerships in 2008).
