Brett Myers of the Phillies was the opening day starter. Yesterday, as the Phils closer, he threw the final pitch of the season as well. Has this ever happened before? By who? When? This is for a team, not all of baseball.

That's an interesting observation.

But, whomever pitches last today would be the last pitch of the regular season. It's not a playoff game today.

hmm...
maybe smoltz could've done it the year he stepped into the closer role...

edit:
no, he didn't. neither did miguel batista for the jays when he stepped into the role. there must have been many other pitchers who went from starter to closer but it is difficult to search for. or the staff ace pitching a complete game on the last day of the year.
also, sometimes when teams are fighting for a playoff spot on the last day you see starters come out of the pen. maybe it will happen again tonight for the rockies or padres if peavy goes a complete game.
